The interest in the match ended after England was bowled out for 179 in the first innings. Afghanistan was officially eliminated from the Champions Trophy. South Africa advanced to the semi-finals.

With England’s narrow all-out, it was only a matter of time before the Proteas became the group champions. And so it did in the end. They defeated England by 7 wickets and reached the last four as the best team in Group B.

England, batting first, were bowled out for 179 runs, with a total of 38.2 overs to play. Marco Janssen was the one who basically unleashed the onslaught on the England batting line-up. They could not overcome the blow they had given to the team by returning Phil Salt and Ben Duckett. No batter scored a fifty. The highest score of 37 came from Joe Root’s bat.

All Proteas bowlers took one wicket each. Jansen finished the innings with 3 wickets, while Vianne Mulder also took 3 wickets. Keshav Maharaj took 2 wickets, Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada took one wicket each.

In reply, South Africa were also in trouble after losing 2 wickets for 47 runs. However, Heinrich Klaasen and Rassie van der Dussen put on a 127-run stand for the third wicket to overcome the blow. When Klaasen returned after being caught by Adil Rashid, the Proteas were 6 runs behind.

With this win, South Africa advanced to the last four as group winners. Australia are the group runners-up. India and New Zealand will play the last match of the group stage on Sunday. Both teams have confirmed their place in the last four. As a result, the results of their matches will now determine who will play against whom in the last four.

Meanwhile, after three consecutive losses, England is returning from this tournament as the worst team of the eight teams. Bangladesh has benefited from this. Nazmul Hossain Shantara got 1 point as the match against Pakistan was washed out due to rain, so they are finishing the tournament in sixth place. As a result, Bangladesh will now receive 42.288 crore taka as prize money for the sixth team.
