Protests against the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College in West Bengal have started to take a different turn. The movement has now turned into a one-point demand for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s resignation.
On Tuesday (August 27) ‘Nabanna’ was surrounded by the agitators. Protesters clashed with the police in many places. At least two hundred protesters were arrested. Due to this, the state BJP has called for a 12-hour ‘Bangla Bandh’ in West Bengal on Wednesday (August 28).
BJP could not win against Trinamool Congress in the last Lok Sabha elections. The central government tried in various ways in West Bengal politics but could not make the Trinamool unsettled. This time, BJP is using the anger against Mamata on the RG tax issue. It can be said that they have become desperate to gain political advantage.
Anandabazar said that the state BJP leadership has taken various plans to make the bandh successful on Wednesday. BJP has been on the road since morning. They have clashed with Trinamool in several places. Already, BJP workers have started protests by burning tires in different parts of the state. They have plans to close markets and disable metro services in various parts of the city.
Railway traffic has been disrupted at various stations including East Medinipur, Cooch Behar, Krishnanagar, Maldah, Ranaghat, Murshidabad, Sealdah since morning. BJP also has a plan of ‘Rail Roko’ at various stations around the state capital Kolkata city.
