2 arrested in Makhon murder case in Sylhet

Police have arrested two people in connection with the recovery of the body of a young man named Makhon Mia (35) from a paddy field in Osmaninagar upazila of Sylhet.

The arrested are Alamgir Ali (30), son of Ala Mia of Tajpur Ailakandi village in Osmaninagar upazila, and Azad Mia (55), son of the deceased Ariz Ullah of the same village. A hammer used in the murder was recovered from Alamgir Ali during the arrest. Alamgir also gave a statement under Section 164 in the court.

It is learned that the victim Makhon Mia left his house after Taraweeh prayers last Friday night and did not return. Despite extensive searches, his relatives could not find any trace of him. The next day, Makhon Mia’s body was found in the Boro paddy field next to his house.

Although Makhon Mia’s current address is in Ailakandi village of Tajpur union, his permanent address is in Kurua village of Dayamir union of the same upazila. He is the son of the deceased Mofiz Mia of that area.

Meanwhile, a murder case was filed with Osmaninagar police station after the body was recovered. Later, the police conducted a raid and uncovered the main mystery of the murder within 24 hours.

Police said that Alamgir Ali was arrested in a raid in the Ailakandi area on Sunday afternoon. Later, after the initial interrogation, he was handed over to the court and gave a confessional statement under Section 164.

In view of his statement, another raid was conducted in the Ailakandi area on Sunday night and Azad Mia was arrested.
