Bangladesh Nationalist Party BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s advisor and former mayor of Sylhet City Corporation Ariful Haque Chowdhury said, ‘The entire Muslim Ummah is going through a difficult time. The inhuman torture being carried out on Muslims in different parts of the world, including Palestine, is shocking. We pray to Allah to protect us from those oppressors. We pray for the health of our beloved leader, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. May Allah Almighty heal her quickly and bring her back to us. At the same time, we are also praying for the good health and longevity of our acting chairman Tarique Rahman.’

Warning the party leaders and activists, he said, ‘BNP will not shelter extortionists, terrorists or land grabbers at any level. Those who oppress and torture people can never be part of BNP. If anyone sponsors them, the party will not take responsibility for it. BNP is the people’s party, we are determined to protect the peace and harmony of Sylhet.’

He also said, ‘We pray to Allah that our lost leader M. Ilyas Ali and all the missing leaders and activists return.’

He said the above while speaking as the chief guest at a prayer and iftar mahfil held on Tuesday (March 25) at the Shahjalal Sub-city of Sylhet city, at the initiative of all the organs and associate organizations of BNP, for the health of former Prime Minister, national leader Begum Khaleda Zia and for the prosperity of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and for the prosperity of the country.

Under the chairmanship of Additional GP of Sylhet District Sessions Judge Court and Shahjalal Sub-city Ward No. 22 BNP Vice-President Advocate Zafar Iqbal Tarek and under the management of Sylhet Metropolitan BNP leaders Rafiqul Bari Ruman, Shafi Ahmed and AK Khair Chowdhury Belal, the central BNP’s Microfinance and Cooperative Affairs Co-Secretary of Freedom Fighter Abdur Razzak, Senior Vice-President of the Central Executive Committee of Bangladesh Nationalist Freedom Fighter Dal and founding convener of Greater Sylhet Nationalist Chhatra Dal, war-wounded Hero Freedom Fighter MA Malek Khan, Acting President of Sylhet Metropolitan BNP Rezaul Hasan Kayes Lodi, Convener of Sammilit Peshajibi Parishad Sylhet Dr. Shamimur Rahman, Sylhet Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court PP Advocate Badrul Ahmed Chowdhury, Sylhet District BNP Joint General Secretary Jasim Uddin, Senior Lawyer Advocate Abdur Rakib, Shahjalal Subdistrict Welfare Council President Ehteshamul Haque Chowdhury, General Secretary Badrul Amin Harun, Joint General Secretary Didar Hossain Rubel, Kanaighat Upazila BNP Vice President Wes Ahmed.
