BNP Chairperson’s Advisor Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said, ‘BNP Chairperson, former successful Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, has worked tirelessly for the progress of women in the country. She introduced a free education system for girls, provided stipends to ensure minimum secondary education, introduced ‘food for education’ to create interest among girls from low-income families in primary education, enacted laws to combat rape and acid attacks, enacted anti-dowry laws, ensured participation of all women in education by forming the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, increased the number of girls by imposing quotas in the appointment of female teachers in primary schools, formed a special tribunal in the trial of women and child abuse and set a specific time limit for investigation for speedy trial, formed a National for Women with the aim of protecting women’s rights and utilizing their performance to their full potential, and took steps taken by Ziaur Rahman to utilize the power of women in maintaining law and order. She also introduced a short-term loan system for grassroots slum areas, distressed women and rural girls by forming her own fund. Begum Khaleda Zia, the leader of the country, said that she would like to visit the suburbs of Sylhet city on Monday (May 12). The chief guest made the above remarks during a meeting with people from different districts of the country living in Terratan area.
