Salman Shah returned to the big screen. As the film *Keyamat Theke Keyamat* was screened at the VIP Projection Hall of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) at 4 PM on Monday, it felt as though the 1990s had come alive again. With Salman Shah and Moushumi appearing on screen, a glint of nostalgia lit up the eyes of the packed audience. Some had come to share their beloved hero with the new generation, while others sought to revisit memories of their own adolescence and youth.
Yesterday marked the second day of a three-day open film screening event organized by the BFDC in memory of Salman Shah. Crowds began gathering in front of the projection hall even before the movie started. As the lights dimmed and Salman Shah appeared on screen, a wave of excitement swept through the audience.
Rakib Hasan, who came from Mirpur, Dhaka, said, “I used to watch Salman Shah on television when I was a child. Today, the feeling of watching his debut film on the big screen is completely different. It feels like I’ve been transported back to my school days. The songs, Salman’s outfits, his acting—everything brings back memories of the past.”
University student Nusrat Jahan also came to watch the film. She said, “We came to know Salman Shah through his movies, but we’ve heard so many stories about him from our parents. Watching *Keyamat Theke Keyamat* on the big screen today, I understood why he was so popular. There is a natural charm to his acting.”
Another viewer, Md. Saiful Islam, remarked, “It has been 30 years since Salman Shah passed away, yet seeing him on screen, it felt as though he was still right here among us. The audience’s reactions during the movie, the smiles on everyone’s faces when the songs began—it all created a truly wonderful atmosphere.”
Despite a career spanning only four years and comprising just 27 films, Salman Shah became one of the most popular heroes in Bengali cinema. The audience’s enthusiasm, even 30 years after his death, proves that the passage of time has not diminished Salman Shah’s popularity.
