President and Chancellor of the National University, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, stated that the National University’s curriculum must be designed to meet the demands of both domestic and international job markets in order to tackle the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and prevent unnecessary unemployment.

He made these remarks yesterday, Sunday (September 20), at Bangabhaban when a delegation led by the National University’s Vice-Chancellor (VC), Professor Dr. A.S.M. Amanullah, called on him.

During the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor briefed the President on the National University’s job-oriented education, syllabus revisions, and overall academic activities. He sought cooperation regarding the status, professional benefits, and welfare measures for the university’s teachers.

Assuring them of his support, the President noted that the country’s education system had been pushed to the brink of ruin during the previous fascist regime through the artificial inflation of pass rates. The current government is working to improve the quality of education at the National University, develop skilled human resources, and enhance the capabilities of teachers.

The President urged the introduction of short-term (six-month and one-year) skill development courses under the National University—alongside existing technology and technical education—covering areas such as healthcare, allied healthcare, Technical and Further Education (TAFE), and ICT, keeping in mind the labor market demands of developed nations.

He stated that such job-oriented educational programs would make it possible to create a skilled workforce of international standards and boost overseas employment. He also emphasized the importance of establishing performing arts colleges in every district of the country in a phased manner.

The Vice-Chancellor formally invited the President to attend the proposed convocation ceremony of the National University in his capacity as Chancellor. President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir accepted the invitation and confirmed his attendance at the convocation. The President’s concerned secretaries, as well as the university’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, and Treasurer, were present during the meeting.
