Police have detained a young man on charges of making derogatory Facebook posts regarding the Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman.
The youth, identified as Mehedi Ahmed (21), was detained on Friday night (September 18) from his residence in the Noagaon Sadipur area of the city.
Police stated that Mehedi had long been posting content on Facebook using indecent and offensive language concerning Tarique Rahman. Following the filing of a formal complaint, he was identified and detained with the help of information technology.
Regarding the matter, Khan Mohammad Mainul Zakir, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station, said, “One person has been detained on charges of making derogatory remarks on Facebook. He is being interrogated to determine if anyone else was involved in this smear campaign.”
