A bus was set on fire in the capital’s Kafrul area. Two units from the Fire Service rushed to the scene to bring the fire under control. The Fire Service received the report of the fire around 10:15 PM yesterday, Friday (September 18).

Shahjahan Islam, a duty officer at the Fire Service, told the media that two units were dispatched after receiving reports of a fire on a bus named ‘Mirpur Super Link’ in front of Kafrul Police Station. The fire was brought under control by 10:30 PM.

He could not immediately provide details regarding the cause of the fire or any casualties.

Meanwhile, eight crude bomb (cocktail) explosions occurred at various locations across the capital starting Friday afternoon. These explosions took place near the Malibagh rail crossing after Juma prayers, and in the evening at Jatrabari, Mohakhali, and Agargaon.

Four crude bomb explosions occurred at separate locations in Jatrabari around 7:15 PM. A battery-operated auto-rickshaw driver was injured in the blasts; he was rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

According to traffic police sources, a crude bomb exploded in front of Jatrabari Police Station around 7:15 PM. Shortly thereafter, three more explosions occurred in front of the Jatrabari traffic police box. Pedestrians were seen running in panic during the incident.

Mohammad Raju, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jatrabari Police Station, stated that four crude bomb explosions took place at different spots in the area. One auto-rickshaw driver was injured and subsequently sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. While the exact origin of the blasts has not yet been confirmed, it is preliminarily suspected that the bombs were thrown from the Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover.

Mir Mohsin, Deputy Commissioner of the Demra Zone (Wari Division, DMP), visited the scene and inquired about the condition of the injured driver at the hospital. Additional police forces have been deployed at the Jatrabari intersection following the incident. Meanwhile, separate explosions occurred in the evening near the Bangladesh Betar building in Agargaon and in the Mohakhali area. Two crude bombs exploded in quick succession in Mohakhali, while another exploded on the road near the Bangladesh Betar building in Agargaon around the same time. However, there were no immediate reports of casualties from these incidents.

Additionally, following Friday prayers, miscreants detonated two crude bombs next to the Sohag Paribahan counter on the road near the Malibagh rail crossing. No casualties were reported in this instance either. Jahid, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of the Motijheel Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the explosions. He stated that efforts are underway to identify the perpetrators by examining CCTV footage.
