Allegations have surfaced regarding the gang rape of an expatriate’s wife following a robbery at their home in Gafargaon, Mymensingh. During the incident, the housewife’s 14-year-old son was held hostage at gunpoint. It is further alleged that the perpetrators recorded the rape on a mobile phone and subsequently demanded more money, threatening to circulate the video if the incident was disclosed.

Police have arrested a man named Rajib (23) in connection with the incident, which took place around 8 PM on Thursday. Police stated that four others were also involved.

According to police and local sources, on Thursday night, Sharif (23), Arif (21), Fahim (22), Rajib (23), and Enamul (22) went to the house and asked for water. When the housewife’s son brought water to the door, he was held at gunpoint and tied to a tree. The group then forced their way into the house, holding the housewife at gunpoint. They broke open an almirah and looted valuables, including Tk 5 lakh in cash and approximately two *bhoris* of gold jewelry. Subsequently, the housewife was gang-raped in front of her son. During the assault, Rajib recorded a video of the incident on his mobile phone.

Police and local sources reported that before leaving, the accused demanded an additional Tk 2 lakh within three days. They threatened to circulate the recorded video on social media if the matter was reported to anyone.

After the gang left, locals rushed to the scene upon hearing the victims’ screams and notified the police. Police subsequently arrived at the location and launched an operation to arrest the accused.

Rajib was arrested yesterday, Friday, around 3 PM from a secluded area near a primary school. Police stated that the other four suspects fled upon sensing the police’s presence. In an attempt to evade arrest, Rajib threw the mobile phone into the water; police later recovered it.

Moniruzzaman Sekh, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gafargaon Police Station, stated that Rajib is currently being interrogated. The mobile phone containing the video of the incident has been recovered from him. A formal complaint has been received, and the process of filing a case is underway.
