300 sacks of illegal Indian sugar were found in a sand truck in the Surma bypass area of the Sylhet-Tamabil highway. While the driver fled, Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB-19) seized the truck with sugar.
On Wednesday (September 18) around 4 pm, the truck with sugar was seized and taken to 19 Battalion.
Earlier on Tuesday (September 17), a shipment of Indian sarees, three-pieces and two crores worth of clothes was seized from under a sand-filled truck from Kanighat Chatul Bazar area of Sylhet.
According to BGB, the patrol team of BGB signaled a sand truck on the Sylhet-Tamabil highway at 3 pm on Wednesday. When the truck ignored the BGB’s signal and tried to escape, the patrol team chased the moving truck. Meanwhile, another patrol team from the battalion headquarters was stationed in the Shahparan Bypass area. When the truck reached there, the driver left the vehicle and ran away. Later, the sand-filled truck was taken to the headquarters of BGB-19 battalion.
BGB also said that 300 sacks of sugar were found under the sand by a novel technique when the truck loaded with sand was unloaded in front of the headquarters.
BGB 19 battalion captain Lt. Col. Khandkar. Asadunnabi said, the operation was conducted on the basis of secret information. The seized sugar will be handed over to the Customs Department. Such operations will continue to stop smuggling at the border.
