Shalla (Sunamganj) Representative //

A young man has gone missing after falling into the Kalni river of Sunamganj’s Shalla upazila while enjoying the breeze while sitting on a boat. This incident happened on Friday (September 20) around 9:30 pm.

The missing youth is Tamim Sheikh (25), son of Liaquat Ali of Shalla village of the upazila. However, it is known that Tamim, who collapsed, was suffering from epilepsy.

According to Tafsir Alam Chowdhury, the cousin of missing Tamim Sheikh, last night (Friday) because there was no electricity, many people of our village sat on a boat on Kalni river to try natural weather. Meanwhile, around 9:30 PM, Tamim suddenly fell from the boat and drowned in the water. We immediately jumped into the river but could not find him later.

Ahmed Hossain, investigation officer in charge of Shalla police station, said that it has not been possible to recover the body of the person who drowned in the water after a lot of searching.

Jayant Singh, the responsible leader of Shalla Fire Service said, I was informed about this at 1 o’clock last night. But there is no diving team at Shalla station. The diving team lives in Sunamganj. If they said, I would have arranged a diving team from Sunamganj. However, the place where the incident happened is near Ajmiriganj from here. If necessary, it will be convenient for Habiganj’s diving team to come and work within a short period of time.

Fakhrul Islam, the leader of the Habiganj Fire Service diver unit who came to rescue the body, said on the phone that we 7 divers searched half a kilometer from 12 noon to 3 pm today but did not find the body. Due to strong current in the river, it is difficult to recover the body. Maybe the body can be found today.
