5 years after the construction of a mosque in Taltala village of Sadar Union of Srimangal Upazila of Moulvibazar, there have been allegations of attacking the mosque and vandalizing various structures claiming the land of the mosque.

The other accused are Sorab Mia’s son Iman Mia, Hasim Mia’s son Tarek Mia, Rafiq Mia’s son Liton Mia, Jahangir Mia’s father unknown, Asad Mia’s son Sohag Mia, Khalil Mia’s son Kalam Mia and Kamdar Mia. All the accused are residents of Taltala village in South Uttarsur.

According to the complaint, Md. Rahim Mia has been serving as the secretary of that mosque for one and a half years. On Friday, September 26, after Friday prayers, Sorab Mia of Taltala village told the worshipers that the mosque was built on his land. By saying this he ordered the Muslims to vacate the mosque. When he was asked to show the documents that he owned the land of the mosque, he could not show any documents. Later the matter was brought to the notice of the local tutor Muchabbir Mia and others. The mentors discussed with Sorab Mia and fixed the date of resolution of the issue through arbitration meeting on October 10, but Sorab Mia came to the mosque with a group and attacked the mosque and broke various structures including the mosque’s ablutions, bathrooms, and the paved floor of the mosque and caused damage of around two lakh rupees. At that time, the mosque was occupied by boundary pillars on the mosque land. The obstructors who were present then did not come forward for fear of their lives.

Secretary of the mosque committee Rahim Mia said, we are afraid of such activities of Sorab Mia. Law and order may deteriorate in the area at any time. He spoke to the local UP chairman and members and lodged a written complaint with the Srimangal police station to resolve the matter legally.

In this regard, the accused Sorab Mia denied vandalizing the mosque and said that a new mosque was built on the land owned by him for constructing a temporary mosque. Only the roof of the former mosque has been removed. There is a lot of talk about this. Rahim said that he will give details when he meets Mia.
