A discussion meeting was held on the occasion of the 37th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council at the initiative of the Sylhet District and Metropolitan Branches.
The meeting held at the Sri Sri Balaram Jiur Akhra Hallroom in Mirabazar in the city on Tuesday evening was presided over by Advocate Bijoy Krishna Biswas, Acting President of the Oikya Parishad District Branch.
The chief guest was the Organizing Secretary of the Oikya Parishad Central Committee, Malay Purkayastha.
The meeting was moderated by Pradeep Dev, General Secretary of the Oikya Parishad Metropolitan Branch, and special guests included Advocate Mrityunjay Dhar Bhola, President of the Oikya Parishad Sylhet Metropolitan Branch, Pooja Udjavan Parishad Sylhet District President, Hero Freedom Fighter Gopika Shyam Purkayastha, District Vice President of the Council and Head of the Christian Association, Dicom Nijhum Sangma, and Central Leader of the Oikya Parishad Subrata Deb.
Speakers at the discussion meeting said that great freedom fighters fought to uphold the rights of people in all religions and establish a non-communal Bangladesh. But still, people from minority communities are being tortured and oppressed in various parts of the country. We want this oppression to stop and a state of equal dignity, equal rights and humanity to be established. For this, we all have to work together.
Among others, the meeting was addressed by Kripesh Pal, General Secretary of Oikya Parishad Sylhet District, Advocate Ranjan Ghosh, General Secretary of Puja Udjavan Parishad District, Muktijoddha Panna Lal Roy, GD Runu, Aurobindo Das Gupta, Debabrata Chowdhury Liton, painter Bhanu Lal Das, Manik Lal De, Nirmal Sinha, Arun Biswas, Samar Kumar Das, Manmohan Debnath, Sanjay Pal, Himel Talukder, Mithil Pal Pratnath and others.
