Dhaka //
The injured undergoing treatment are angry because of the government’s mistakes. They have left the hospital and taken to the streets because the demands of the injured in the anti-discrimination movement are reasonable. Farida Akhtar, advisor to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, told reporters after a view-sharing program with officials at the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute in Savar on Thursday morning.
She also said, I have spoken to the injured undergoing treatment until the early hours of the morning. Many of the injured have not yet received compensation due to various bureaucratic complications. It is being urgently arranged.
She said, we think we need to see the anger that has arisen in the minds of the injured in the mass uprising. Certainly, there was some mistake on our part, it is not that there was no mistake at all. Looking around, it could have been wrong somehow. The anger that has arisen among them is why they have taken to the streets.
The advisor said, we could not stay there seeing them on the street with bandages on their hands and feet. That is why some of us advisors went there at night. Not only are they seeking treatment, they are also the only earners in the family. Many of them have taken loans and are protesting at their homes for installments. Where will they get that money?
At this time, he said, they want their rehabilitation. We think that is a very reasonable demand. We think that if we sit down this afternoon, we will be able to come to a solution. Everyone will pray that they get well. We owe them a lot. Therefore, no negligence can be allowed towards them.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Shakila Farooq, Director General of Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute, and Shahina Ferdousi, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, was the special guest.
