Students have formed a human chain demanding relocation of the municipality’s garbage dump to another place at the request of several educational institutions including a government college in Srimangal, Moulvibazar. At this time, they announced that if the garbage dump is not relocated within 20 days, the students and locals will go on another movement.
On Sunday (December 1), students of Srimangal Government College, The Birds Residential Model School and College and Gausia Shafiqia Sunnia Madrasa organized a human chain. Locals including teachers and students participated in the human chain.
Upon receiving the news of the students’ human chain, Upazila Executive Officer Md. Islam Uddin went to the spot and assured the students that he would try to resolve the issue very soon.
Students including students Zakaria, Uts, Nurul Amin and Nafiza said that they had heard various kinds of promises before. Nothing has been done. Despite many promises, the garbage dump has not been removed.
Participating teacher and head of the Bengali department Md. Saiful Islam said that this is a long-standing demand. Although local officials including the DC have made various assurances at various times, they have not been fulfilled till date. Therefore, the students have had to start the movement again. He wants a quick solution to this.
