Health Advisor Nurjahan Begum said, we are giving importance to empty medicines. In fact, this is not health care. It has become a medical business. If we all return to health care with emphasis on disease prevention, then it is possible to improve our health system as a whole.
The health advisor said this as the chief guest at a meeting on medical equipment and devices at the BSMMU Convention Hall in Shahbagh in the capital on Tuesday (December 10).
She said, “We talk about pressure or blood pressure. But why pressure occurs, what to do to prevent pressure, what changes to make in lifestyle should be brought about. We should give great importance to prevention or disease prevention.”
Detailed information and data on equipment in Upazila Health Complexes, Sadar Hospitals, Medical Colleges and Specialized Hospitals across the country were presented at the meeting. Methods for properly repairing and preserving all these equipment and making useless equipment functional were discussed in detail.
The meeting was chaired by Health Services Department Secretary Md. Saidur Rahman and was attended by Special Assistant to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Dr. Md. Saidur Rahman and Secretary of the Health Education and Family Welfare Department Dr. Md. Sarwar Bari as special guests.
Also present were – Bangladeshi American business executive Umar Ishraq, President of Medtronic Labs Ruchika Singhal, specialist doctors and directors of various hospitals in Dhaka, officials of the Ministry of Health and the Directorate.
