The bullet-riddled body of a tea worker has been found at the Indian border in Baralekha of Moulvibazar district. The deceased tea worker has been identified as Gopal Bakti (35). He is the son of former UP member Akil Bakti of Baralekha New Samanbagh Tea Garden.
On Sunday (December 22) morning, Baralekha police and BGB members recovered the body from the zero line of the Indian border at Samanbagh Tea Garden in Baralekha, Moulvibazar.
It is learned that Gopal Bakti did not return home at night after going to bring bamboo from Samanbagh hills on Saturday morning. The locals saw the body lying at that place the next day.
His relatives alleged that the BSF shot and killed him at the zero line of the border. He was saved as some other workers with him fled. According to local and BGB sources, tea worker Gopal Bhagti left his home on Saturday morning with a few other workers and went to a remote hill to fetch bamboo. When he did not return home till night, his relatives started searching for him. On Sunday morning, news came that a body was lying between border pillars 1391 and 1392 under the BOC Tila BOP of BGB-52 Battalion.
After receiving the news, BGB and police station chief Imran Ahmed, who accompanied the relatives to the scene, confirmed the truth of the incident and said that the body of the deceased Gopal has been recovered and sent to the hospital for autopsy.
