The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) is trying to construct a barbed wire fence along the border of Haripara in Dahgram Union of Patgram Upazila of Lalmonirhat. BSF was forced to stop work due to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) obstruction around noon on Wednesday. According to international border law, no structure can be built within 150 yards of the zero line.

According to BGB and local sources, Indian workers were preparing to construct a barbed wire fence today under the supervision of BSF on the zero line of sub-pillar 23 to 28 of Haripara border main pillar (DAMP) number 8. When the matter came to notice, BGB intervened. BSF was forced to stop work. Later BSF personnel took position on the border with heavy weapons.

BGB Panbari Camp Company Commander Subedar Wahid said,
Earlier last night, BSF brought a large amount of barbed wire fence and construction materials to the border. When the matter became known, some local people gathered at the border. In this situation, additional members of BGB are being deployed there and are being vigilantly monitored.

Going to the border of Haripara this afternoon, it is seen that iron pillars have been dug in the area near the zero line of sub-pillars number 23 to 26. Nearby, members of India’s 6 Raninagar BSF battalion are patrolling. BGB members were patrolling the border in Haripara village of Dahgram Union. Many residents of Dahgram Union can be seen with them.

Shamim Sheikh and Aminur Rahman, residents of Haripara village, said that suddenly around noon, in the presence of BSF, Indian workers started throwing iron pillars in the Dhankhet adjacent to DAMP pillar number 8 of the border. Later, when several BSF personnel arrived there, the workers continued to install barbed wire along the pillars. When the matter was reported to the local BGB camp, they arrived at the spot and prevented it. Later BSF and workers moved out from there. Later, BGB came to the spot and asked the local people to be safe.

The matter has been reported to senior officials. In this regard, the commander of Rangpur 51 battalion, Lt. Col. Salim Al Deen told reporters, “BSF was working on the construction of barbed wire fence on the border. We strongly objected to it. In this incident, a flag meeting was held at the battalion level of both countries near the incident site at 6:30 p.m. today. Currently closed. BGB is active to protect the safety and property of Dahgram union residents. Border patrols have been strengthened.
