Ukraine’s military has claimed it used highly accurate US-made glide bombs to attack Russia’s Kursk region. In addition, Ukraine has also demanded the recovery of some areas of Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine occupied by Russia.
Ukrainian Air Force Commander Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshuk released a video on Thursday night. It shows Ukrainian troops using US-supplied GBU-39 bombs. The US news agency AP reported on Friday.
The video showed multiple explosions and plumes of smoke rising from the scene. Along with that, in the video, Russian forces are also seen hitting Kursk.
Kiev has belatedly received a US-provided military aid package for Ukraine. Since this month, the Ukrainian army has gained momentum in the attack. As a result, they started attacking Kursk in western Russia at the beginning of the month.
In such a situation, US President Joe Biden has also announced a new package of military assistance for Ukraine, including air defense missiles, counter-drone equipment, anti-armor missiles and mobile rocket systems.
Biden spoke by phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday ahead of Ukraine’s Independence Day. He expressed America’s unwavering support to the people of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s 3rd Assault Brigade said on Thursday that its forces recaptured nearly two square kilometers of Kharkiv region. Brigade Commander Andriy Biletsky said they attacked the Russian troops and took control of an area they had occupied and several strong bases.
However, no details were given about the time and area of the attack. There was no immediate comment from Russia.
Russia launched an attack on Kharkiv last May. However, Russian forces intensified their attack on Donetsk before fully controlling the region. And Russia’s occupation of Kharkiv was seen by the West as a sign of Ukraine’s lack of military support.
