The Shahparan (Rah.) Mazar Investigation Center Police Outpost has arrested two people after recovering 308 sacks of sugar while smuggling it hidden under a truck loaded with stones in Sylhet. A truck used for smuggling was seized at the time.
On Sunday (February 9) night, a truck was searched near the Muslim School in Daspara under Shahparan (Rah.) Police Station and the sugar was seized.
According to police sources, a truck was stopped when a signal was given to a truck near the Muslim School in Daspara under Shahparan (Rah.) Police Station at around 10:30 pm on Sunday. The truck was searched in front of the witnesses present as the conversation and behavior of the truck driver and his companion were suspicious. At this time, 308 sacks of Indian sugar covered with white polythene were recovered under the truck loaded with stones. The market value of which is 18 lakh 11 thousand 40 taka. The value of the seized truck is Tk 3 million, according to the police.
The arrested are Md. Kabir Ahmed (32), son of the deceased Shafiqur Rahman of Dupi area of Jaintapur police station in Sylhet district, and Md. Shakil Ahmed (19), son of Md. Chan Mia of the same area.
Confirming the matter in a press release on Monday (February 10) afternoon, Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Media Officer, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam said that a case has been filed at Shahparan (RA) police station regarding this incident and the arrested persons have been handed over to the learned court.
