Students formed a human chain and protested demanding the stopping of immoral activities under the guise of a resort in Srimangal, Moulvibazar.

On Thursday (February 20), more than two hundred women, men, school, college and madrasa students from Dilbarnagar village of Sadar Union participated in the human chain under the banner of ‘Aware Student-Janata of Dilbarnagar Village’ at Srimangal Chowmuhani.

The students and villagers complained that – 2 years ago, a certain Nazrul Islam Shaheen from Srimangal town rented a house in Dilbarnagar village and started a resort business called Hillpark. Various anti-social activities including loud music playing, drug consumption, prostitution continued at the resort. As there are schools, mosques, madrasas, and orphanages nearby, Muslims and school-college students have to face embarrassing situations. Despite repeated protests from the locals, no remedy has been found.

The protesters also said that during the political change of August 5, the angry students attacked and vandalized the resort and closed it. The students arrested 5 women from there. These women admitted to being involved in prostitution. Since then, the owner of the resort, Nazrul Islam Shaheen, has filed one case after another against the innocent students of the village and has tortured a young man from the village. Recently, Shaheen Mia has changed the name of the resort and is again carrying out anti-social activities.

At the same time, the protesters of the village demanded the withdrawal of the harassment case against the students and the arrest of Shaheen, who protested against the eviction of the brothel operated in the name of Shaheen’s resort from the village.

The leader of the anti-discrimination student movement, Md. Mujahidul Islam, Niloy Tanmoy of the National Citizens Committee, Monir Mia, Kamrun Nahar, Kamal Mia, Tajul Islam, Mamun Mia, Md. Alauddin, Sharif Mia, college students Ali Haider, Naeem Hossain, Imran Mia, Maharam Ali Hossain, and others spoke on behalf of the villagers.
