Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir Central President Zahidul Islam and Secretary General Nurul Islam Saddam have strongly condemned and protested against the dissemination of baseless information implicating Chhatra Shibir in an incident that took place at Sylhet Murari Chand (MC) College on Wednesday night.

In a joint statement, the leaders said that a three-day book fair was organized at MC College yesterday on the initiative of the college administration. There is a publication stall of Chhatra Shibir there named after Rudra Sen, a martyr in the 24th student-people’s uprising. The college leaders of Chhatra Shibir were busy organizing this event all day and until midnight yesterday. Chhatra Shibir has no involvement in the incident that took place there between an anti-discrimination student movement activist and a Bangladesh Anjuman-e-Talamiyya Islamia activist.

The leaders said, in the immediate investigation, we have come to know that the person who raised the complaint against the student camp while injured, has already had complaints against him from students staying in the college hostel for cooperating and providing information to the banned Chhatra League. In view of this, when some students went to his room in a specific block of the hostel to talk to him, an argument broke out between them and at one stage, injuries occurred and two were injured. But an attempt is being made to hide the real incident by linking this incident with the student camp.

The leaders also said that since many people are angry with the constructive and creative programs of the student camp and those who want to blame the student camp whenever they get the opportunity, a section of them is eager to put the entire responsibility of this incident on the student camp. We also see that a regional Pirtantrik party in Sylhet, who were allies of the fascist Awami League in the past, is also running propaganda by accusing Chhatra Shibir of shirking responsibility for their misdeeds committed during fascism, which basically serves the purpose of fascism.

The leaders demanded punishment of the guilty subject to a clear administrative investigation into this incident and urged all the media outlets that have disseminated misleading news without facts and evidence to publish the protest of Chhatra Shibir in its proper place by highlighting the real facts.
