Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman has emphasized the need to further strengthen international cooperation alongside robust national measures to combat existing and emerging transnational crimes.

He reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, enhancing access to justice, strengthening institutional accountability, and modernizing the criminal justice system.

He made these remarks yesterday, Sunday (September 27), while addressing the high-level session of the 15th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The Law Minister is leading the Bangladesh delegation at this congress, which is taking place from September 26 to October 1, 2026, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) in the UAE.

In his address, Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment—under the leadership and guidance of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina—to strengthening the rule of law, increasing public access to justice, bolstering institutional accountability, and modernizing the criminal justice system.

He highlighted Bangladesh’s ongoing judicial reforms and emphasized the country’s efforts to tackle existing and emerging transnational crimes through strong national actions and international cooperation.

The Law Minister stated that, in alignment with the Abu Dhabi Declaration, Bangladesh has pledged to reform the Code of Criminal Procedure. This initiative aims to strengthen and expand the effective use of summary trial procedures, expedite case disposal, reduce case backlogs, and ensure timely and equitable access to justice.

The Vienna-based United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) organizes this significant international congress, which is held every five years.

In addition to Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, the Bangladesh delegation includes other officials from the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Share your opinion.
