Kannada actress Rania Rao, who was arrested on charges of smuggling gold worth Rs 12 crore from Dubai, has claimed that she was framed for blackmailing. The popular actress was arrested from the Bengaluru International Airport last Sunday night.

Meanwhile, a police constable has also been arrested in the incident. It is alleged that he was helping the actress to safely leave the airport with the gold.

After Rania Rao was arrested on March 4, the detective police conducted a raid at her residence in Nandwani Mansion on Lovell Road. Gold worth Rs 2.67 crore and Rs 2.06 crore was seized during the search. After the raid, the officials recovered three big boxes from her house. The total value of the seized property is Rs 17.29 crore.

After landing at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on an Emirates flight from Dubai, Rania tried to evade security checks with the help of police constable Basbaraju. Meanwhile, the DRI had information about her activities in advance. As a result, it was possible to catch the actress red-handed along with the gold. During the search, 14.2 kg of foreign gold worth Rs 12.56 crore was found inside Rania’s jacket. After her arrest, the actress was taken to the DRI office in Nagavara for detailed investigation.

Meanwhile, after learning about the incident, the actress’s father, Kannada IPS officer Dr. K. Ramachandra Rao, claimed to the media that he had no relationship with his daughter. He said that he had no connection with the incident. Rania got married about four months ago. Since then, they have not had any contact with their daughter. Ramachandra also said, “We do not know anything about the business of the daughter or her husband. What has happened has given us a big shock. We are very disappointed. However, the law will take its course.”

Police claim that the actress often goes to Dubai with her husband Jatin. However, it is not for any business or family reasons, but for this gold smuggling. Investigation has shown that Rania always got the help of the police to avoid security checks at the airport.
