Businessman Nuruddin has requested not to listen to rumors about Sylhet’s Atiq Convention Hall.
Recently, an extortion gang is trying to take the incident on social media Facebook in a different direction after an unexpected incident at the Pir Bazar Atik Convention Hall in Shahparan (R) police station area of Sylhet city on the night of June 17. Prominent businessman Nuruddin has expressed his anger at this.
In a statement on Monday night, he said that a rogue terrorist extortion gang had entered their rented room that night under a different identity and held him and a friend with him hostage and looted their money. Later, he himself filed a written complaint with Shahparan (R) police station on June 23, seeking redress. Later, when the owner of the convention hall, Atiq Mia, came to know about the matter, he held several meetings with the locals to resolve it. At one stage, he described what happened to Nuruddin as an unexpected and misunderstanding. Although the entire damage was not compensated at that time, the matter was settled by fines through local elders.
Meanwhile, the perpetrators of the incident continued to devise various schemes to tarnish the image of the owner and prominent businessman Nuruddin, including the activities of Atiq Convention Hall, in the eyes of society. The terrorist group has recently made a cut video and is trying to collect extortion by spreading it on social media, hiding the true incident that happened almost a month ago. The miscreants are carrying out various schemes to tarnish the reputation of Atiq Convention Hall and tarnish Nuruddin in the eyes of society. As part of that, he mentioned in the statement that they have recently been spreading the cut video on the social media.
The names of those named in the statement are Badsha Mia (33), manager of Atiq Convention Hall, Raihan Ahmed Manna (28), son of Andul Hannan of Puranbari Kewa village, Kamrul Islam Joni (35), son of Manik Mia of Pirer Chowk village, Nazim Uddin (30), son of Alauddin of the same village, and Sheikh Salam (32), son of the deceased Mir Mia of Kona village of Pirer Chowk temple. On the night of the incident, they held him and another friend hostage, threatened to sell them women and drugs, and demanded a ransom of five lakh taka. At one stage, they allegedly recorded some cut videos. After staging a drama with Judge Mia, the miscreants looted the 66,000/thousand taka that was with them. The next day, the gang also promised to pay another one lakh taka. Later, he approached the police station seeking redress.
He further said in the statement that terrorists are sometimes carrying out these activities openly in the name of their own journalists and sometimes in the name of different parties. He expressed strong condemnation and anger over this incident. The statement said to refrain from such immoral activities and spreading rumors in the near future. He also requested everyone not to listen to such rumors.
