BNP’s candidate for Thakurgaon-1 constituency with the symbol of the sheaf of rice and the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the party that is coming to seek votes today with the scale symbol took a stand for the Pakistanis during the Liberation War in 1971.

He said these things while addressing an election road meeting in Auliapur Union of Sadar Upazila on Saturday afternoon.

Mirza Fakhrul said, you remember 1971, you remember the war. We ourselves took up arms against the Pakistanis and fought for independence. No one came from outside to fight for us. We did not leave Bangladesh and went anywhere. But those who opposed the independence of Bangladesh then are the ones who are coming to you today with the scale symbol to seek votes. You judge whether they were for or against independence.

He said that under the plan of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, a family card will be introduced for women, which will be an effective weapon for mothers and sisters. Through this card, women will directly benefit in the daily needs of the family.

In addition, mentioning that an agricultural card will be introduced for farmers, Mirza Fakhrul said that farmers will get various facilities through this card. In addition, easy and affordable healthcare will be ensured for the common people through a health card.

Regarding the upcoming elections, he said, elections will be held on February 12 to establish democracy in the country. I ask you to vote with a grain of rice. When you support me, I try to speak for the people when I go to parliament.

Some voters present at the road meeting took to the stage and highlighted various development activities implemented during Mirza Fakhrul’s time as an elected member of parliament in the past. They mentioned several developments, including the Barendra Multipurpose Development Project to increase irrigation facilities in agriculture, and expressed their expectations for new development in the future.

If elected, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir assured that he would work with utmost importance to develop rural infrastructure and ensure the safety of people of all religions.
