Barcelona has decided a five-member captain’s team ahead of the new season. Rafinha, Pedri, Eric Garcia, Frenkie de Jong and Lamine Yamal will lead the Catalan club in the 2026-27 season.
Before the start of the season, Rafinha, Pedri and Erik García were selected as captains by coach Hansie Flick. Frankie De Jong and Lamine Yamal were later added to this list by the team’s players’ vote.
Rafinha remains the first choice in order of responsibility. After that Pedri will be the second in charge. Eric Garcia, Frankie de Jong and Lamine Yamal are in third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.
Players’ ability to lead, their influence in the dressing room and their experience are considered in the selection of captains. However, Yamal’s name in the list is the most talked about. The young Spanish forward has made it into Barcelona’s leadership structure at just 19 years of age.
It also revealed Barcelona’s long-term plans around Yamal. His inclusion in the list of captains is indicative of the fact that he is considered one of the most important faces in the future leadership of the club.
Barcelona will face Valencia in La Liga on Sunday. In the pre-match press conference, Coach Flick can elaborate on the responsibilities and roles of the new captains.
