Representative image. A young man named Mehedi Hasan (25) has died after being stabbed in the capital’s Shah Ali area. Police have detained one person in connection with the incident.
The incident occurred around 12:30 AM (late Sunday night) on the road in front of Shah Ali Women’s College.
Critically injured Mehedi was rescued and admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he passed away early Monday morning while undergoing treatment. Atwar Rahman, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Shah Ali Police Station, confirmed the matter.
The deceased, Mehedi, hailed from Sahebganj village in Faridganj Upazila, Chandpur. His father’s name is Md. Alam. He was currently residing in the Borobagh area under Mirpur Police Station and worked making signboards.
SI Atwar Rahman stated that a person was detained with a knife from the road in front of Shah Ali Women’s College around midnight. Shortly thereafter, police learned that the detained individual had stabbed a young man nearby. The injured youth was subsequently taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.
It has not yet been confirmed whether this was a mugging incident or a killing stemming from a prior feud. SI Atwar Rahman stated that the matter is currently under investigation.
