An accused individual has been accused of verbally abusing a judge and assaulting an on-duty police officer inside the courtroom in Barguna after his bail application was rejected. Following the incident, the court immediately sentenced the accused, named Bashir, to one year of simple imprisonment. Additionally, he was fined 1,000 Taka, with a provision for an extra 15 days of simple imprisonment in default of payment.

The incident occurred this Wednesday afternoon during the hearing of a CR (Complaint Register) case at the Barguna Sadar Cognizance Court. Asaduzzaman, the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Barguna, handed down the sentence.

Advocate Md. Kamrul Islam Faraji, the court’s Additional Public Prosecutor (APP), stated that the accused, Bashir, had been on interim bail. Today, the judge rejected his bail application. Enraged by this decision, he began behaving aggressively in the courtroom and made indecent remarks directed at the judge. Lawyers present attempted to restrain him but failed to bring the situation under control. At one point, when police attempted to handcuff him, Bashir attacked Police Constable Siddik. Constable Siddik was assaulted right inside the courtroom in the presence of the judge. Taking cognizance of a new case under Sections 186 and 323 of the Penal Code, the court immediately recorded testimony and sentenced the accused to one year of simple imprisonment. He has been sent to jail under a warrant of commitment.

Advocate Md. Nurul Amin, the Public Prosecutor (PP) of Barguna, confirmed the incident and remarked that everyone should show trust and respect toward the court.

He further added that the behavior exhibited by the accused, Bashir, in court today was completely unacceptable.
