6 More Children Die with Measles Symptoms in 24 Hours

Six more children have died with symptoms of measles in the country over the past 24 hours. This brings the total death toll for the year to 1,036—comprising 100 confirmed cases of measles and 936 deaths involving measles-like symptoms.

This information was disclosed on Tuesday (September 15) during the Directorate General of Health Services’ (DGHS) regular health bulletin.

The report stated that four children died with measles symptoms in Dhaka alone during the last 24 hours (from 8:00 AM Monday to 8:00 AM Tuesday). During this period, 1,316 new patients were admitted to hospitals across the country with measles or related symptoms. Of these, 484 were admitted in the Dhaka division, 30 in Rajshahi, 197 in Sylhet, 281 in Chattogram, 125 in Barishal, 82 in Mymensingh, 98 in Khulna, and 19 in Rangpur.

Data from the DGHS indicates that since March 15 of this year, a total of 153,279 patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country with symptoms of measles. Of them, 147,386 have recovered and returned home.

According to DGHS figures, the number of suspected measles cases in the country since March 15 stands at 173,959. Among them, 20,201 cases have been confirmed as measles.
