President Visits Sylhet

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is visiting Sylhet following his assumption of office. He is accompanied by his wife, Rahat Ara Begum.

On Tuesday morning (September 15), the President departed from Dhaka on a US-Bangla Airlines flight and arrived at Sylhet Osmani International Airport at 11:30 AM.

Upon arrival in Sylhet, he visited the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and Hazrat Shahparan (RA). This marks his first visit to Sylhet since assuming the presidency.

He was welcomed at the airport by Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muqtadir; Minister of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and Minister of Labour and Employment Ariful Haque Chowdhury; National Parliament Whip Md. GK Gaus; Sylhet City Corporation Administrator Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury; local Members of Parliament; political leaders; and senior officials from the divisional and district administrations.

Later, the President traveled from the airport to the Sylhet Circuit House, where a smart contingent of the Bangladesh Police presented him with a guard of honour.

After a brief rest at the Circuit House, the President visited the shrine of the Sufi saint Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) in the city’s Dargah Gate area around 12:30 PM. There, he offered prayers seeking the progress and prosperity of the nation and its people.

After visiting the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA), the President proceeded directly to the shrine of Hazrat Shahparan (RA) in Khadim Nagar, Sylhet. There, he paid his respects at the shrine and performed the Zuhr prayers.

During this one-day visit to Sylhet, the President attended a civic reception organized by the City Corporation on the premises of the Sylhet City Bhaban at 3:30 PM.
