On the one month anniversary of the fall of the dictatorial Sheikh Hasina government in the students’ uprising, the anti-discrimination student movement held a ‘martyr’s march’ in memory of the martyrs. At 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, the students started the Martyr March from the front of Dhaka University’s (DU) anti-terrorist Raju sculpture. Students and common people from various universities, colleges, technical, madrasas and schools of Dhaka including Dhaka University participated in it.
Lakhs of students came down the streets of the capital. This Martyr’s March started from Raju Bhaskarya of the University and passed through Neelkhet-Sciencelab-Kalabagan-Parliament Bhawan-Farmgate-Kowranbazar-Shahbagh-Raju Bhaskarya and ended with a rally at Shaheed Minar. Earlier, students of various schools, colleges and universities gathered in front of the Raju sculpture.
Earlier, thousands of students gathered in Dhaka University area to take part in the Martyr March program at two o’clock in the afternoon. Most of the arrivals had the national flag of Bangladesh in their hands. After 2.30 pm, the students started chanting different slogans in front of the Raju sculpture of Dhaka University.
Sarjis Alam, coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, said in a short rally at the central Shaheed Minar at the end of the Martyr March, “Our brothers gave their blood in the revolution to bring freedom, we are ready to give blood again to keep the spirit of this revolution.”
It can be seen on the surface, apart from remembering the martyrs in the attacks and persecutions of various organizations of Awami League and the law and order forces, the student crowd remembered the heroes who were killed in the ongoing aggression against Palestine. Although the program was supposed to start from 3 pm, people from different classes and professions including school, college, madrasa students started gathering at the foot of the sculpture after 2.30 pm. Around three in the afternoon, the Raju sculpture was filled with people.
Around 3:30 in the afternoon, the TSC area erupted with slogans demanding Sheikh Hasina’s trial. Large flags of Bangladesh and Palestine are placed in the middle of the row of students. Hundreds of students hoisted the national flag. Flags of Bangladesh and Palestine were also seen on the heads of many. Some of the students brought placards with names and pictures of martyrs. At this time, the students said ‘Success be success, martyrs march be successful’, ‘Because of martyrs, I am not afraid of death’, ‘Blood of martyrs, I will not let go in vain’, ‘Our martyrs, our strength’, ‘Abu Saeed is impressed, the war is not over. ‘- kept giving such slogans.
Sarjis Alam, one of the coordinators of the central Shaheed Minare movement, said that the 2nd independence won by the student uprising will not go in vain. Still many fascists exist, we want to tell fascists and people who harbor fascist thoughts, don’t try to behave fascist in this independent Bangladesh. There will be no extortionists and syndicates in this Bangladesh. He further said that our brothers who gave their blood to bring this freedom, we are ready to give our own blood anytime to pay for their blood.
At this time, they demanded 5 points. Genocide should be quickly arrested and brought to justice. Financial and legal assistance to the families of the martyrs should be provided as soon as possible. The accomplices of the corrupt and fascists in the administration should be identified and brought to justice immediately. Ganobhaban to declare July Memorial Museum. Roadmap for restructuring of the state should be announced soon.
From the beginning of July this year, students of various universities started protesting to demand reform of job quota. Various organizations of the then ruling Awami League, including the Chhatra League, and the law and order forces attacked and tortured the movement, resulting in casualties across the country. At one point it turned into a movement to overthrow the government.
On August 5, Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister and fled to India. This ended the rule of Awami League for almost 16 years. Three days after the fall of the Awami League government, on August 8, the Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. The Advisory Council of the Interim Government was sworn in under the leadership of Muhammad Yunus.
Meanwhile, the anti-discrimination student movement held a ‘Martyr March’ program across the country on the one month anniversary of the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government in a student uprising. The anti-discrimination student movement has organized rallies and discussions in the district. Local people also participate in it.
Bagerhat: Students and crowd observed ‘Shahidi March’ in Bagerhat. In the afternoon, the students took out a rally in front of the Dashani Shaheed Memorial in the district town.
The procession ends at the central Shaheed Minar square after circling the main main road of the city. On the other hand, at the same time, the local students took out another rally in front of Bagerhat Government PC College. Later this rally also met at Shaheed Minar square.
In the rally and gathering, the students remembered the martyrs who were shot by the police in the mass uprising and prayed for the forgiveness of their souls. Besides, the students are seen giving different anti-discrimination slogans. Students can be seen chanting revolutionary slogans such as ‘Abu Saeed-Mugdh, the war is not over’, ‘We want justice for the police and Awami League leaders who shot at the students’, ‘There is no place for students in Bengal, attacks and cases’, ‘Apos na Sangram.
