The university authorities have decided to start the classes of Dhaka University from September 22 after being closed for more than two and a half months. This decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the university’s syndicate on Thursday evening.

The meeting was held in the university under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Niaz Ahmed Khan. Later, the university authorities informed this information in a press release.

According to the press release, it has been decided to start classes for all years except the first year from September 22. It has been decided to start the first year classes of the undergraduate program for the academic year 2023-24 from September 30.

According to the press release, the proposals already accepted at the department, institute, faculty and central level are in the process of being implemented in order to improve interpersonal relations between teachers and students and resolve conflicts.

The academic activities of the university were virtually shut down since July 1 due to the movement demanding reform of quota in government jobs and a program called for a scheme of universal pension structure for teachers. However, the university was officially closed from July 17. After that, the mass uprising of the students started demanding the fall of the government. Sheikh Hasina’s government fell on August 5 in the face of a mass coup. After that, the interim government was formed on August 8. At one stage the previous vice chancellor resigned. Later a new vice chancellor was appointed. Two vice-chancellors have also been appointed. Now the university is opening.
