The sports secretary of the same committee, Shaukat Ali (Didar), was killed in an attack on the convoy of the central president of the Volunteers Party, SM Jilani, in Gopalganj. BNP leaders and workers alleged that Awami League leaders and workers carried out this attack. At least 50 people including journalists were injured.

The incident took place at Sadar Upazila Ghonapara junction yesterday at 5:30 pm. At least 10 cars were vandalized. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station Mohammad Anichur Rahman confirmed the death to the media.
OC Mohammad Anichur Rahman said, BNP leaders and workers were going to Tungipara with a convoy. Why the incident happened is not yet known. Some say that the incident started with pulling the banner. No case has been filed in this regard so far. Around eight o’clock in the night, the OC said, the police recovered the body of a person named Shaukat Ali from the side of Pathalia Banglalink tower near the incident site. The body has been sent to Gopalganj 250-bed general hospital morgue for post-mortem.

It is said that the deceased Shaukat Ali used to serve as a cricket umpire in Dhaka. The injured persons are – Volunteers Dal President SM Jilani, his wife Gopalganj District Mahila Dal President Roshan Ara (Ratna), Raju Biswas, Mahabub Khan, Lintu Monsi, Salman Sikder of Gopalganj, Sujan Sikder, Sabuj Sikder, Nasir Ahmed Mollah of Motijheel area of ​​Dhaka,
Badsha Mollah, Nishan, Hasan etc.
16 of the injured persons have been admitted to Gopalganj 250 bedded General Hospital and three to Tungipara Upazila Health Complex. From there, seriously injured SM Jilani, his wife Roshan Ara and volunteer team leader Badsha Mollah were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. It is reported that the injured have been treated at various local hospitals.

Almost all of the injured are leaders and activists of BNP and Swachhasevak Dal in Dhaka and Gopalganj districts. Injured Roman Molla is a raw material trader of Ghonapara market and a supporter of Awami League. At this time, TV’s Gopalganj camera person Manik Hawladar’s mobile phone was snatched and beaten severely.
Resident medical officer of Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital Farooq Ahmed said that 16 people including the central president of the volunteer group were admitted to the hospital. Most of them have scars of native weapons on different parts of their bodies including their heads. The condition of some of them is critical. Three people have been sent to Dhaka.

Sadar Upazila BNP president Sikdar Shahidul Islam said, ‘We were going to Tungipara to visit the graves of volunteers party president SM Jilani’s parents after completing a peaceful road meeting at Bedgram intersection of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila at around five in the afternoon. On reaching Ghonapara intersection, the convoy was attacked under the leadership of Gopalganj Municipality Ward 15 Councilor Amin Molla, Gobra Union Awami League President Zikrul Fakir, local Awami leaders Alimuzzaman and Hasan Molla.
Regarding the complaint, Awami League leader Alimuzzaman said that BNP leaders and workers tore the banners with photos of Bangabandhu and Sheikh Hasina in Ghonapara area while taking the convoy. If they obstructed, they were attacked. He himself was injured in the attack.

District BNP convener Sharif Rafikuzzaman said, after finishing a road meeting of BNP at Bedgram Junction, he left for Tungipara. When they reached Ghonapara, two to three hundred leaders and workers of Awami League and allied organizations attacked the leaders and workers in a surprise attack along with barricading cars on the road with native weapons. At least 50 leaders and workers of BNP and allied organizations were injured.
