Jewel Chowdhury, Habiganj District Representative //
Complaints have been received that there is no counterfeiting or any work without bribery in the record room branch of Habiganj District Commissioner’s office. District Record Room Branch office assistant cum computer numismatist Mohammad Majeed Mia has been accused of accepting bribe openly. There is also an allegation against him of missing the application form due to non-payment of bribe. A person named Mohammad Abdul Muhin filed a written complaint with the Deputy Commissioner seeking redressal in this regard.
According to the source of the complaint, the person applied for a copy of the RG, reply and order of a miscellaneous case to the officer-in-charge of the record room branch on September 5. Later, when he went to the district record room branch to inquire about the progress of the application, Mohammad Majid Mia, an office assistant and computer cashier working there, demanded a large bribe several times. Majid also said that if the victim refused to pay the money, he would collect it later. Last on September 17, when the victim again went to the record room, Majid Mia demanded a bribe of 500 taka for the fake. Then when the victim asked to pay 300 taka, Majid Mia got angry and said to give a duplicate after a month. After the victim was forced to pay 450 taka to withdraw the fake, he found that the government fee was only taka 58 for all the fakes. Out of which he mentioned that he himself paid 44 rupees.
Meanwhile, another victim named Abdul Wahid Mission said that he applied for a copy of the same case on August 15. Later, when Majid Mia came to know about the progress, he demanded a bribe of 300 taka. He thinks that the application form has disappeared due to non-payment. He also filed a written complaint with the District Commissioner seeking redressal.
Mohammad Abdul Muhin, who complained about this, said that my brother applied for a copy on August 15. The application form disappeared because the office assistant Majeed Mia was not bribed. Later, I was forced to make a new application and withdraw the duplicate as per their demand. Nothing works here without money. I seek redressal and demand maximum punishment subject to fair investigation.
When contacted over the phone, Mohammad Majeed Mia, office assistant and computer accountant of the record room branch, said, “I have no objection if someone gives voluntarily.” The rule is to pay the folio and court fee, if anyone voluntarily gives 200,100, 500, whoever wants to. I don’t know who made the complaint. On the same issue, District Record Room Officer-in-Charge Ranjit Chandra Das said that since the complaint has been made to the District Commissioner, he will take the decision.
