India’s Assam-based woman director Rima Das’s ‘Village Rockstars Two’ won the first prize in the Jisok category at the 29th Busan International Film Festival. The awards were announced at the closing ceremony held at Busan Cinema Center’s BIFF Outdoor Theater on Friday (October 11) night.

Village Rockstars 2 is an Assamese language sequel to Rima Das’s previous film Village Rockstars (2017). The story of the movie revolves around a small Ajparagaon girl Dhunu’s dream of becoming a rock star. Vonita Das has once again played the role of Dhunu, who is struggling with poverty. His mother is played by Basanti Das, and the elder brother is played by Manvendra Das.

The Jisok Award at the Busan Film Festival is given in memory of late program director Kim Jisok. This category usually features new works by established Asian filmmakers who have directed 3 films.

“Yen and I-Li” by Taiwanese filmmaker Tom Shu-Yu Lin won the second prize at this year’s festival.

The victory of ‘Village Rockstars 2’ in the Jisok category of the Busan International Film Festival is considered a major achievement for the Assamese film industry.
