Police have arrested two people in a raid in Surma Bypass Point area of Sylhet along with a huge quantity of banned illegal Indian sarees, cosmetics and creams worth over half a crore taka. The market value of the seized goods is estimated at 65,48,720/ (sixty-five lakh forty-eight thousand seven hundred and twenty) taka.
On Friday (November 22) at around 8:30 pm, Shahparan (RA) Investigation Center Outpost Police arrested these two people red-handed based on a secret tip-off, along with a carver van loaded with sarees, cosmetics and creams.
The arrested are Md. Hnoday (22), son of Md. Kamal Hossain of Chhurichalan village of Kaliakoir police station in Gazipur district, and Md. Yasin Arafat (20), son of Md. Monir Hossain of Bulua village of the same police station area. During the arrest, they told the police that the owners of the seized goods were Eklash (32), Abul Chowdhury (28) of Haripur village of Fatehpur union of Jaintapur model police station, and Abdul Khaliq (34), Hemu Haudpara village. The operation was led by SI (retd) Md. Sanaul Islam of the Police Outpost Investigation Center on the instructions of the OC of Shahparan (RA) police station.
Md. Monir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Shahparan (RA) police station, confirmed the truth of this matter. He said that the operation against stolen goods will continue.
