Tafrid Cotton Mills Limited has been gutted in a massive fire due to an electrical short circuit in Shayestaganj upazila of Habiganj. The company’s admin Md. Zahidul Islam said that the fire has caused damage worth crores of taka.
Upon receiving the information about the fire, a team of police and three units of the fire service led by Shayestaganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Dilip Kant Nath reached the spot and brought the fire under control.
The horrific fire broke out in the Alipur area of the upazila on Thursday (December 5) at around 11 pm.
Station Officer of Shayestaganj Fire Service Ariful Islam told The Daily Morning Sun that after receiving the news at 11 pm on Thursday, Tafrid Cotton Mills was able to bring the fire under control with almost a lot of effort. How the fire started can be said subject to investigation.
Company Admin Zahidul Islam further said that it is initially believed that the fire started from an electrical short circuit. Meanwhile, according to local sources, 288 metric tons of cotton were destroyed in a terrible fire at Tafrid Cotton Mills on February 22, 2022 at around 7 am.
