Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner (Crime and Ops) Mohammad Haroon Or Rashid and his wife Shireen Akhtar’s bank accounts have been seized.
Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) seized their bank accounts on Sunday.
The BFIU’s letter said that any accounts in the name of Harun and his wife Shireen Akhtar and their privately owned businesses should also be suspended. As a result of account freeze they will not be able to withdraw any money from now on.
It is also reported that the Prevention of Money Laundering Act has given directions for suspension of accounts for one month.
Apart from this, all account related information/documents (account opening form, KYC documents, transaction statements etc.) maintained in the name of Harun, his wife and their family members (mother, father, brother and sister) and data sheet as per provided excel sheet from the date of issue. Said to ship within three working days.
