Two people arrested in the death of a newborn due to medical negligence by the Khowai Hospital authorities in Sabujbagh area of Habiganj city have been sent to jail. The police have not yet arrested the director Aminul. However, the body of the newborn has been handed over to the family after the autopsy.

Arif and Tuhin, who were arrested yesterday, were sent to jail on Saturday afternoon. The main accused in the case, Aminul, remains missing. However, the police say the operation is continuing. He will be arrested soon.

Earlier, on Friday evening, Hafiz Khan, the father of the newborn, a resident of Sadakpur village in Baniachang upazila, filed a case with Sadar Police Station, making Aminul Islam the main accused. Following the complaint, on the instructions of OC Alamgir Kabir, a group of police including OC Investigation Sajal Sarkar, SI Sujan Shyam went to the hospital and found out the truth of the incident. They seized documents, arrested the hospital owner’s brother Tuhin and staff Arif and took them to the police station for questioning.

The source further said that Hafiz Khan’s wife Rafia was brought to Khowai Hospital for a cesarean section last Thursday morning. After all the tests, a decision was made to perform a cesarean section that evening. But at that time, she was taken to the operation theater with all the medicines. At that time, the doctor did not perform a cesarean section due to a malfunction in the machine. Later, the authorities said that the machine would be fixed and the doctor would be informed. In view of this, the doctor left. But it was not possible to fix the machine until 11 pm. Meanwhile, if the patient’s condition worsened, they asked him to go home, saying that there would be no problem, instead of sending him to another hospital. But if the relatives felt pain after going home, they told the hospital authorities that there would be no problem and told him to bring him in the morning. Even though he was brought in the morning, the authorities made excuses and did not perform a cesarean section. Last Friday around 11:30 am, when Rafia’s condition deteriorated, she was taken to the nearby Panacea Hospital. After an examination there, it was learned that the newborn was dead. Later, a cesarean section was performed there and the newborn was delivered.
