The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is investigating the illegal assets of Awami League General Secretary and former Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader. The commission has decided to investigate a report published in the media about his corruption.

ACC Director General and Spokesperson Md. Akhter Hossain told reporters at a briefing on Thursday.

He said that on August 29, a national daily published news about the corruption of former Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader and then-minister ABM Amin Ullah Noori. It was taken into account as an allegation and sent to the Director General of the Commission’s Special Investigation Branch for investigation. In view of this, an investigation process has been initiated against him.

The complaint states that Obaidul Quader and former secretary ABM Amin Ullah Noori wanted to buy 137 air-conditioned buses through a preferred company to operate on the 20-kilometer section of the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway from the airport to Gazipur; but they were unable to do so and suspended the entire process. The ACC has started investigating this complaint.

It is learned that Obaidul Quader was hiding inside the country for three months after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5. No one in the law enforcement agencies or intelligence agencies was aware of where he was hiding. At one point, he left the country.

Another government source says that the government has no evidence that he had fled the country or had already fled abroad.
