A teenage hosiery worker was hacked to death in Fatulla of Narayanganj Sadar Upazila over an old dispute. Another of his friends is undergoing treatment at the hospital after being injured in the incident.
The incident took place in Pilkuni area of Fatulla around 9:30 pm on Friday, police said.
The deceased, 17-year-old Md. Siam, is the son of Abdul Halim of Sirajdikhan Upazila of Munshiganj. He lived in a rented house with his family in Pilkuni area.
Siam’s friend Milon (16) is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Siam’s father Abdul Halim.
Police and locals said that a group of teenagers hacked and injured Siam and Milon at around 9:30 pm. He was hacked over an old dispute. Locals rescued them and took them to Narayanganj 300-bed hospital. There, doctors declared Siam dead and Milon was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The deceased’s father, Abdul Halim, said that Siam worked in a local hosiery factory. After being ill for some time, he had been going to work again for the past 15 days. When some boys came to Halim at around 9:45 pm last night, he told him about his son’s injury. When he went to the spot and found Siam in a bloody state, he said, “I heard that some people attacked my polar bear due to an old dispute. But I don’t know what the dispute was.”
Another friend of Siam, Rabbi, said that a few months ago, Kader had a fight with some teenagers in the area. Siam and Milon were attacked due to that dispute.
Shariful Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Fatullah Model Police Station, said that the people of the opposing side attacked the two friends due to an old dispute. The police have received the names of some people in the initial investigation. The police are working to arrest them. A murder case is under process in this incident, the police official said.
