BNP will give reasonable time to the interim government for fundamental reforms of the state. Everyone agreed on this decision in the BNP Standing Committee meeting held on Monday night.

According to related sources, two more decisions were taken in this meeting. One is that the BNP will demand the formation of a judicial inquiry committee to re-investigate the BDR massacre in Pilkhana in 2009. On February 25 and 26, 2009, the BDR rebellion took place in Pilkhana, Dhaka. 74 people including 57 army officers were martyred. The other is that the founding anniversary of the party will be celebrated in Sambar on September 1.

It is said that after speaking with several members of the BNP Standing Committee, Dr. The party will not set a deadline for the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus. However, before the formation of the interim government, the party’s general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir demanded that elections be held within three months. And the acting chairman of the party, Tariq Rahman, said that the elections will be held soon. Now the party has softened its earlier stance.

BNP policymakers feel that the interim government should be given reasonable time to reform important state institutions. Meanwhile, the interim government has taken several steps in the financial sector including administration, which is giving hope to the countrymen. BNP will fully support this government.

A member of the standing committee, on condition of anonymity, said, “It has only been a few days that a government has been formed. Why will BNP set the time now? It is rude and inappropriate. We don’t have to ask, when the time comes they will announce the election.

In Monday’s meeting, two new members of the Standing Committee, Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmad and AZM Zahid Hossain were felicitated. On Tuesday afternoon, Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam paid tribute to the two newly appointed members at the grave of BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla city. A large number of leaders and workers of the party were present at this time. Later they prayed there.
