A child class student died after being hit by a tom-tom in Zakiganj, Sylhet. The deceased child is Yusuf Khan (6), son of Zubayer Ahmed Khan of Sultanpur village of Sultanpur union. The incident took place in Babur Bazar of the upazila around noon on Sunday (January 19).
It is learned that Yusuf Khan is a child class student of a local kindergarten in Babur Bazar. Around 9:30 am, he was crossing the road with his mother on his way to school when he was hit by a tom-tom vehicle. When he was injured, his mother Safwana Ferdous took him to the Upazila Health Complex. But since the injuries were not serious, the doctor on duty at the health complex gave him first aid and sent him home. Later, when the child’s physical condition deteriorated around noon, he was taken to the Upazila Health Complex again, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
The child’s mother, Safwana Ferdous, filed a petition with the police seeking permission to bury the body without an autopsy, calling the incident a mere accident. Later, the police handed over the body to the family without an autopsy.
In this regard, Zakiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahirul Islam Munna said that permission has been granted to bury the body without an autopsy following the application of the deceased child’s mother. Legal action will be taken if any complaint is filed by the family.
