Eminent lyricist, composer and musician Pratul Mukherjee is undergoing treatment in the ICU of Kolkata’s SSKM Hospital in a serious condition. The artist, known as ‘I sing in Bengali’, has been admitted to the hospital for the past two weeks. Various Indian media outlets have confirmed the news.
Pratul was admitted to SSKM in the first week of January this year due to a physical illness. He was bleeding from his nose. After that, neurologists and ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialists examined him. Pratul’s physical condition is still not stable. The doctors are keeping him under close observation.

Another Indian media outlet reported that Pratul Mukherjee suffered a heart attack after an intestinal surgery. Later, he suffered from an antibiotic-resistant infection. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed concern after receiving news of his deteriorating physical condition on Monday. She spoke to the doctors at the hospital over the phone about Pratul’s medical treatment.

After the assembly session on Monday, Mamata called the doctors at SSKM Hospital to inquire about Pratul’s physical condition. Not only that, the Chief Minister sent two state ministers Indranil Sen and Arup Biswas to the hospital to learn more about the poet-singer’s health.
Pratul Mukherjee was born on June 25, 1942, in Barisal, undivided Bengal. He migrated to India with his family during the partition. He used to compose music for his own songs from childhood. Among his many creations, the song ‘Ami Banglaay Gaan Gai’ is particularly appreciated.

His popular albums include – ‘Pathar Pathar Nache Agun’, ‘Jete Hobe’, ‘Otho Hey, Dream Merchant’, ‘Tomake Dekhedim’, ‘Swapnapur’, ‘Anoek Noon Bandhu Hok’, ‘Hazbaral’, ‘Dui Kanur Upakhyan’, ‘Andhar Nama’ etc.
