The relief collected for the flood victims has no place in Dhaka University’s Student Teacher Center (TSC). TSC is full of various products offered by people of various classes and professions for four days. Meanwhile, besides food, medicine, clothes, 5 crore 23 lakh 3 thousand 603 taka 68 paisa cash was also collected in four days. This relief collection program will start again from 8 am today.
The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement announced the relief collection on Wednesday night after the ongoing floods in the south-eastern part of the country. Then students started collecting various products at TSC from Thursday morning.
Heeding their call, people of various classes and professions started to cooperate widely. As a result, on Friday night TSC’s cafeteria, games room, auditorium and even the walkways are filled to the brim with various goods. Later, the students started keeping essential items including dry food, dates, medicines, sanitary napkins, drinking water in the gymnasium adjacent to the central playground of the university.
On Saturday evening, the ground was seen, as the TSC and Daksu cafeterias were filled with relief materials, the relief collection is going on in the gymnasium adjacent to the central playground of the university. Relief materials are being piled inside the field gallery and gymnasium. However, there is a shortage of space as soon as the afternoon passes. It was not confirmed whether more relief will be kept there today.
Meanwhile, 5 crore 23 lakh 3 thousand 603 taka 68 paisa cash has been collected online-offline in ‘Ganatran’ program. On the other hand, a total of 30 lakh 12 thousand 970 taka has been spent in various sectors in these four days. This information was given in a press briefing on Sunday evening.
Anti-discrimination student movement coordinator Lutfar Rahman, media and communication wing head Rezwan Ahmed Rifat and TSC booth chief coordinator Aditi read out written statements at the press briefing held at the central playground on Saturday afternoon.
They said, out of the total money received, 4 crore 39 lakh 1 thousand 690 taka in cash in TSC, 62 lakh 94 thousand 120 taka through mobile banking, 21 lakh 7 thousand 793 taka 68 paisa have been collected through banking. The money spent was spent on relief supplies, emergency medicine, relief bags and food for volunteers.
Regarding the relief program, they said that the anti-discrimination student movement distributed the money received in the public relief program to different districts in person and with the help of the administration. Till 5 pm on Saturday, 50 truckloads of more than 50,000 relief materials have been sent to different areas.
Each truck is filled with 800-1000 relief packages (one family) and 20-30 cases of water. Each package contains a package of essential dry food and medicine for a family.
Moreover, under the supervision of the Air Force, 3,000 packages have been distributed by helicopter to remote flood-affected areas and cash assistance of Tk 3,96,500 has been given.
