Today is the birth anniversary and auspicious Janmashtami of the adorable Lord Krishna of Sanatan Hindu community. The Hindu community of the country will celebrate Janmashtami with religious solemnity and joy.

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna was born on the eighth tithi of Shuklapaksha in the month of Bhadra. Various socio-cultural and religious organizations including Bangladesh Puja Celebration Council and ISKCON have taken extensive programs on this occasion. Today is a public holiday on the occasion of Janmashtami. Special programs will be broadcast on private satellite channels including Bangladesh Radio and Television.

On the occasion of auspicious Janmashtami various programs have been taken up centrally at Dhakeswari National Temple by Mahanagar Sarvajanin Puja Committee. Gita Yajna and historical Janmashtami procession at 2 pm for the well being of the country and nation and Shri Krishna Puja at night.

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISCON) has undertaken a comprehensive three-day program on the occasion (from August 25 to 27). Programs include Srimad Bhagavatam reading, Bhajan Kirtan, Bhog Aarti, distribution of Mahaprasad, discussion meeting, cultural program and religious drama Kirtan Mela.
