Shahparan (retd.) Police have arrested Jubo League cadre and alleged modern TV YouTuber Mamun Ahmed alias Chechra Mamun (32) in a case of attack on the anti-discrimination student movement in Sylhet.

The arrest was made on Friday (February 28) evening.

The arrested Mamun is the son of the deceased Formuz Ali of Zingabari Dalimati area of ​​Kanaighat upazila in Sylhet district. He was currently living in an extended house in the Nipaban residential area under Shahparan police station.

Earlier on Friday afternoon, Mamun was seen standing and talking to SMP Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ziaul Haque. At that time, the OC was in a state of excitement with the accused Mamun. There are rumors about this.

It is known that on January 9 of this year, on the charge of attacking the anti-discrimination student movement, Sylhet District Jubo Dal’s religious affairs secretary and Md. Namor Ali’s son Sajib Ahmed of Mirzapur village of Moglabazar police station filed a case in the court naming 477 people as the plaintiff.

On the orders of the court, the case was recorded at the Kotwali police station of Sylhet metropolis on February 3. Chechra Mamun was mentioned as the 27th accused in the said case. Its case number is 68/25.

Meanwhile, a related source has confirmed that after Mamun’s arrest, one of his associates is lobbying the police station to release him. Although Mamun used to extort money from smuggling syndicates and open YouTube to extort large sums of money by threatening various people. There are many allegations of extortion and other misdeeds against him in the past. Mamun was the mastermind of these misdeeds during the authoritarian Hasina government.

In this regard, Shahparan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Monir Hossain said that Mamun has been detained for questioning. There are allegations of extortion against him in Shahparan Police Station. In addition, there is a case against him in Kotwali Model Police Station. He said that he will discuss with the higher authorities and take legal action.

OC’s private conversation-

Ziaul Haque, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Police Station of Sylhet, was seen in a private conversation with the accused, who has an arrest warrant. The secret conversation took place during a function of Sylhet Society at the Sylhet Sub-Registry Ground on Friday (February 28).

A reliable source said that the Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner was supposed to attend the function as a guest. At that time, OC Ziaul Haque was waiting for the Police Commissioner to reach the meeting place. The absconding accused Mamun went to Erphan and started talking to him.

On the other hand, when the Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner was contacted on his official mobile phone and his WhatsApp to find out whether he was supposed to attend the Sylhet Society event or not, no response was received as the mobile phone was not received.

Another source said that since Mamun became an accused, he has been using various strategies to get rid of the case. The source said that he has already been lobbying the investigating officer to remove his name from the charge sheet of the case. However, a few hours later, Shahparan Police arrested him.
