A stone worker, smuggling lineman and then nephew of former President Abdul Hamid has been accused of extortion by a person named Humayun from Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet. This has angered the people of the local area.
It is learned that despite the change of power under the degenerate Sheikh Hasina government, the multifaceted Humayun has not changed his appearance. Gowainghat upazila is rich in mineral resources. He is earning a lot of money from every sector including sand, stone, coal, smuggling. He also spent a huge amount of money to thwart the July-August mass uprising. He had formed a large Latial army against students who opposed discrimination.
Although he has made headlines several times before, he has remained out of the reach of the law due to some invisible force. The entire Gowainghat Upazila administration has been running around pretending to be the nephew of the former president.
On-site investigation revealed that he and his Latial army attacked the student crowd in July and August. Recently, the protesting members and coordinators of the student crowd have risen up against him in protest. But for some mysterious reason, he is walking around in broad daylight, showing the thumbs up to the administration. Although the protesting members and coordinators have given an ultimatum to arrest him within 48 hours and bring him under the law. If this does not work, the concerned source said that a police station siege program may be carried out along with the withdrawal of the OC.
Meanwhile, several sand and stone traders in the Jaflong area, who did not want to be named, told the reporter that Humayun is still mining stones in the Jhumpar area of Nayabasti every night with bomb machines and excavators, destroying the environment. A huge amount of sand is also mined from the Jaflong River. In addition, he leads the smuggling syndicate group in the upazila area. In exchange, he extorts a lot of money. A part of that extortion goes into the pockets of some dishonest police members and some dishonest officials of the UNO office. When journalists try to reveal these true facts against him, they have to face lawsuits. He spends a large amount of money and runs around the courts. Sometimes ICT cases and sometimes conspiracy-based false and fabricated lawsuits have become his addiction and profession.
The source further said that Humayun is carrying out these activities by selling the name of Gowainghat Police Station OC Sarkar Tofail. He has been living in the local area as a labor leader, banned Chhatra League cadre, journalist and businessman.
Humayun’s close relative Md. Saiful Islam told The Daily Morning Sun that Humayun was a stone quarry worker, one could say illiterate. Later, he used to collect extortion from the workers and give it to the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) as a lineman. Suddenly, I heard that he has also got a journalist’s card?
Then I came to know that he has become the nephew of President Abdul Hamid! Using that identity, he took pictures on his mobile phone and showed them to ordinary people and indulged in bribery, trade and extortion. A video of extortion from businessmen went viral before July and August.
In that video, he can be heard saying, “The former Prime Minister and the President are close to him. If all the journalists of Gowainghat were weighed on the same scale, what would happen would be the same!”
In this regard, former UP member of Central Jaflong Union No. 11 and president of the business organization Md. Riaz Uddin Talukder told the reporter, “Humayun is a fraudster and extortionist. During the then government, he made a mountain of money by forming a collusion with some dishonest police members. He is following the same path even now.
He also said, “The fraudster Humayun has extorted lakhs of taka from the businessmen of my organization in the Banglabazar area by intimidating them. If no one gave him the extortion, he would harass them by filing various false cases. That is why no one dares to protest against him. Many people have served jail terms and even been sent abroad to protest his extortion,” he said.
Shahjahan Mia, a businessman from Baur Bhag area, and Nasir Munshi from Naindar Haor village said, Chatur Humayun, who cannot read or write, is a fake journalist. Extortion is his main profession, he has to pay the extortion, if he does not pay the extortion, he would harass the police and threaten false cases and take ordinary people hostage to extort money. Recently, he has extorted about 8 million taka from the businessmen of the area and us by threatening the Department of Environment with a case.
Md. Julhas Sikder, a prominent elder from the Nab Khand area of Jaflong, said, Humayun is a fraudster who extorted by threatening the former Prime Minister and the President. Recently, one of his sand boats was seized and he extorted 14 thousand taka.
A rural doctor who fled the country due to his lawsuits and attacks, Md. Shahin Alam, told reporters on his mobile phone that his brother, rural doctor AB M. Dulal Ahmed, was running an unregistered association called Maa Mani Project. Since the association was not registered, he demanded a ransom of two lakh taka from his brother Dulal by threatening the police, and at one point Dulal was forced to give him a ransom of 50 thousand taka. When he could not pay the remaining amount of the ransom, he went to Maa Mani Pharmacy owned by the victim rural doctor Dulal with a stamp of 300 taka and got into a fight. At one point, Humayun got careless and got hit on the head. Later, he filed a case against us and harassed us. The recorded audio clip of that extortion is preserved with us. He also said that the extortionist by that name has been arrested by law enforcement agencies several times along with drugs. There is a Yaba smuggling case against him. GR case no. 162/2015. Forest Department tree theft case. GR case no. 153/13. Terrorist attack, looting and robbery case, Judge Court case no. 17/16. Child kidnapping, Special Tribunal no. 2, 318/15.
Despite being involved in so many cases including drugs, extortion, child and women abuse, theft, robbery and kidnapping, Humayun, the fraudster and extortionist, has been caught. Although he escaped most of the cases by running a lobbying business during the tenure of the defunct Hasina government. There are allegations that he also cleverly retrieved that media card in exchange for a large sum of money.
Meanwhile, his son, Chhatra League leader Sanwar, and his father Humayun are plotting various schemes to thwart the students’ pledge to build a country free from tyranny. When asked about these allegations, Humayun refused to comment.
When contacted to inquire about this, Gowainghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sarkar Tofail Ahmed told The Daily Morning Sun that video footage of those involved in the attack on the student-public movement has been identified and a list of extortionists has been prepared. They will be brought to justice very soon.
